    Combinatorics and its Applications

Programme theme: This programme will be devoted to the theory and applications of combinatorics. The focus will be on major recent advances in combinatorics and will aim to enhance and develop linkages with the world's best combinatorial researchers and their institutions. Additional points of focus will be applications to computational biology, complexity theory, theoretical computer science and abstract algebra; areas that are already well developed in New Zealand. Further information can be found on the programme website

Programme directors:Dr Paul Bonnington (University of Auckland) and Professor Geoff Whittle (Victoria University of Wellington)

    Programme committee:

  • Dr Robert Aldred, University of Otago
  • Associate Professor Peter Gibbons, University of Auckland
  • Associate Professor Bakhadyr Khoussainov, University of Auckland
  • Associate Professor Charles Little, Massey University
  • Professor David Ryan, University of Auckland
  • Dr Charles Semple, University of Canterbury
  • Associate Professor Jozef Siràn, University of Auckland
  • Prof Mike Steel, University of Canterbury
  • Dr Kee Teo, Massey University

Workshop details: A workshop on combinatorics took place in Auckland the week of 12-16 July 2004. Further information is archived on the workshop website.

Conference details: An international conference on combinatorics took place in Taupo the week of 12-18 December 2004. Further information is archived on the conference website.

    Dynamical Systems and Numerical Analysis

Programme theme: This programme will focus on the theory and applications of dynamical systems and the numerical analysis of differential equations. Particular attention will be paid to the interaction between the two areas.

Programme director: Professor Robert McLachlan (Massey University)

    Programme committee:

  • Dr Vivien Kirk, University of Auckland
  • Associate Professor Mark McGuinness, Victoria University of Wellington
  • Dr Rua Murray, University of Waikato
  • Associate Professor Reinout Quispel, La Trobe University

Workshop details: An international workshop took place in Raglan the week of 30 August - 3 September 2004, with a smaller workshop taking place in Leigh in December 2004.

Further information on the Dynamical Systems thematic programme is available on the programme website .
